Baris Akyurt
Baris Akyurt was born in 1973, Istanbul. He spent his childhood in Eskişehir, Turkey. Throughout 1990-1999 he played as a Professional Basketball Player for Fenerbahçe, Oyak Renault and Long Island Surfers-NY. In 2000, he went to Atlanta to study Photography. He returned to Turkey and played for Erdemir and Mersin clubs until he ended his basketball career and went back to Atlanta to study Journalism and Political Science. While doing his research on the Middle East Politics, he worked as an interpreter. He then moved to San Francisco and worked as a freelance journalist and photographer for travel magazines, travelling to mainly Brasil besides Argentine, Guatemala, Colombia, El Salvador, Uruguay , Mexico, Nicaragua,Panama, Venezuela and Chile. He has specialised in portrait, nature and advertisement photography. Besides speaking English he speaks intermediate level Portuguese and Arabic.
